Week Running Recap

HIIIII. I swear I exist! I had the opportunity to travel to Nashville for my little niece, Eliana's 1st birthday. It was such a great time to just be with family and to reminisce on the past year with Ellie in our lives. Therefore, everything was paused for 5 days... Isn't she perfect???? Working out was definitely on the backburner while I was visiting; I only went to the gym once and it suckkkkkkked. I attempted to do a 30 minute run-walk program.. that ended 15 minutes in. Tried to do some light body work, which took me so incredibly long to finish. And ended with a 15 minute walk again on the beloved dreadmill. Coming back was emotionally hard for sure, but I did miss running on my home turf. First day I got back, I did an easy 4 miles just to feel my feet hit the ground again. This run really reintegrated me being back home and back into the swing of things. My legs felt a little stiff towards the end, which I expected after hardly moving for 5 days. Tha

Last Long Run Before PGH Half Marathon

Technically, I was supposed to run this long run on Saturday. However, I will be traveling to Tennessee this weekend to see family and didn't want to take away from moments with them. Being away from family can be really hard some days, especially when I get Snapchats and pictures sent of my little niece who will be a year old this Sunday. So instead of ditching my family for ~2 hours on Saturday, I wanted to get it in today. I'll still run this weekend, but not nearly as long. This was the Snap I got Easter morning from my sister. She's such a happy soul. I didn't plan my run well. Just as I was about to leave for my run, friends had stopped over. We got to talking, and I ended up starting my run an hour later than I wanted. I did the math, and knew I couldn't do a LSR (long slow run) without being late for my night shift. I still wanted the mileage, so I ran with a moderate pace. I haven't ran over 10 miles since the Spring Thaw 15 Miler back at

Workaholics Identified

There is something to be said about attempting to work >40 hours a week and enjoy your hobbies - especially if you work the night shift. I am a Child Development Specialist at a residential treatment facility in the greater Pittsburgh area. I love my job, and I also have trouble saying 'No' to overtime, regardless of the shift. The last couple months I have worked at least one overnight shift as part of overtime. Though I can stay awake through the night, it really pulls the life out of me for a couple days following. The Great Allegheny Passage is a perfect flat trail! The last two nights I worked 3pm-7am. No biggie - I made it through my second overnight and crashed into bed (pretty sure I forgot to take off my BB cream and mascara.. whatever). But guess who has a window that faces east and gets the morning sun beating down on her... ME! So I am alive and less-than well at noon. I struggled to stay in bed until about 1:00pm just so I could tell myself that I sl

Starting a blog?! But I'm not a writer...

I'm not great with words. There, I said it. Put me in a college Calculus class or in Biology, I'll do just fine. Put me in an 11th grade English and Writing class... yeah I'll hyperventilate... a lot. However!!! I have a lot to say, and a lot to say about my running journey at that. I'm a full year into falling in love with running all over again, and I felt it was time to just tighten my shoelaces and start writing. I have met so many people from the running community through my Instagram @runningawayfromadulting, and viewing their blogs only brought me closer to desiring to start my own. There's also a character limit on IG, sooooooo... To those who are reading this, I am NOT AN EXPERT and will never claim to be. Blogging for me is a space to vent to whomever wants to listen, to encourage others as they continue their own fitness journeys, to share my triumphs and failures, and so much more. This space will not tolerate negativity, condescending attitudes, or
